Marcia Wiss
Marcia Wiss is a founder and managing partner of Wiss & Partners LLP. Marcia is a pioneer in international project finance and investment. Her 30 years of law and international relations professorial experience at Georgetown and Johns Hopkins has informed her legal practice for the benefits of clients, enabling her to anticipate issues and client concerns before they get out of hand. She finds ways to mitigate political, legal, and practical problems for long term international projects and her extensive knowledge and experience in international investment allows her to approach problems with confidence and solutions.
With a concentration on international project finance and business transactions, with a particular focus on transactions in emerging markets, Marcia has broad specter experience in infrastructure, power plants, water treatment, aircraft, hotels, telecommunications, fishing and entertainment, mining and metal, processing, agribusiness, and manufacturing and oil.
Marcia has been in the private practice of law for over 25 years, having recently retired as an equity partner at the global law firm Hogan Lovells LLP. Prior to private practice, she was deputy to the Assistant General Counsel for Finance at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). She has been the lead counsel on numerous projects financed by the U.S. Export Import Bank, OPIC and the International Finance Corporation, as well as by commercial banks and the capital markets. Her financing and structuring experience includes aircraft, power plants, hotels, telecommunications systems, mines, agribusiness and processing, manufacturing and environmental facilities. She has represented clients in international business transactions on the Indian Subcontinent, in Latin America, the Far East, the Caribbean, Africa, Eastern and Central Europe and in the Middle East.
Marcia has authored numerous publications and lectured extensively on finance, investment, commercial and economic policy issues, political risk analysis, banking, foreign investment, public/private cooperation and international finance, especially project finance, trade policy issues, trade with developing countries, privatization and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (of the World Bank).
She has received numerous awards including “The Best Lawyers in America (Project Finance Law) 2015; as a Project Finance expert in Washington, DC in “Banking, Finance & Transactional Law Expert Guides” August 2015 Edition; IFLR Expert Guides to the World’s Leading Project Finance Lawyers, 2006 to present; and Expert Guides’ “Women in Business Law (Banking and Finance)” 2010 to present.
